Our new anti mud turn out!

wet weather no mud turn out

Like most equestrians, we get so fed up of mud and wet boggy ground.

Last year what we called our ‘winter turn out’, was made with stone and sand, the drainage wasn’t great and so it still managed to get very boggy and with Biscuit having a skin condition last year, sand wasn’t good for him to be rolling in.

We also wanted shelter other than just the trees. Our original paddock with field shelters is prone to flooding and so we decided that we would reuse the space.

We put down 4 inches of stone 15 meters either side of the field shelters, topped with 4 inches of carpet fibre.

This has been a total WINNER! We put up hay nets and when we poo pick we spread it out on the track system so that when the poo breaks down it will sort of re line the track too! Then we will top it up when it is needed.
